Join our movement and re-elect a leader who puts Oakville first. While Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives undermine our progress with divisive rhetoric and harmful policies, Anita is working tirelessly to deliver real results for our community.

What We Stand For

The Oakville East Federal Liberal Association (OEFLA) is a dedicated group of local volunteers committed to supporting the re-election of our candidate, Anita Anand.

  • OEFLA understands that owning a home has become increasingly difficult for many Canadians. That’s why the Liberals have launched Canada’s Housing Action Plan, a comprehensive strategy to build more homes, protect renters and buyers, and make homeownership more accessible. Every Canadian deserves a fair shot at homeownership. Our plan is designed to increase housing supply, protect renters and buyers and make it easier for Canadians to own their homes.

    Building More Homes, Faster:

    • We’re cutting red tape and accelerating the construction of over 100,000 new homes through the Housing Accelerator Fund. We’re also repurposing federal lands for housing and removing the GST from new rental housing.

    Protecting Renters and Buyers:

    • Our plan includes the new Canadian Mortgage Charter, which safeguards homeowners’ rights and provides relief for those at financial risk. We’re also advancing a Home Buyers’ Bill of Rights to ensure fairness in the housing market.

Helping Canadians Buy Their First Home:

    • We’ve introduced a Tax-Free First-Home Savings Account and doubled the First Time Home Buyers’ Tax Credit to make it easier for Canadians to save for and purchase their first home.

    Crack Down on Speculation:

    • We’re banning new foreign ownership of Canadian homes, establishing an anti-flipping tax, and cracking down on non-compliant short-term rentals to ensure housing remains accessible to Canadians.

The Conservatives: Pierre Poilievre’s reckless priorities would tax builders and cut investments in affordable housing, putting homeownership further out of reach for many Canadians. In contrast, we’re focused on building more homes and making housing more accessible for all. Additionally, the Conservatives voted against supports for Canadians, including $10-a-day childcare, Pharmacare, the Canada Dental Benefit, and supports for the Canadian Armed Forces.

  • In Oakville East, ensuring public safety is a top priority. Budget 2024 outlines comprehensive measures to combat auto theft, reduce gang violence, and prevent the proliferation of assault-style firearms.

    Building Safer Communities:

We’re investing an additional $390 million through the Building Safer Communities Fund from 2023 to 2028. This funding ensures that Oakville East receives the resources it needs to support law enforcement efforts and community programs aimed at preventing crime and enhancing public safety.

    Combatting Auto Theft:

Our National Action Plan on Combatting Auto Theft introduces key updates to the Criminal Code to empower law enforcement to take stronger action against those involved in violent car thefts and organized crime. Announced last week, our National Action Plan is a comprehensive strategy focused on disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting the organized crime groups behind these thefts. It includes legislative changes, tougher penalties, and enhanced intelligence sharing with domestic and international partners. We have introduced new offences targeting auto theft and its links to violence and organized crime, punishable by a maximum of 14 years in prison.

Additionally, as part of our efforts, we are deploying a mobile X-ray scanner to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to increase the examination of containers in Ontario. This measure builds on the positive work from the National Summit on Combatting Auto Theft held in early February. In 2024 alone, over 1,300 stolen vehicles have been recovered, with 452 of those in the GTA.

    Tougher Penalties:

We’re increasing the maximum sentences for violent or organized car thefts to 14 years. We’re also targeting the possession or distribution of car theft devices with penalties of up to 10 years, and imposing harsher sentences for those who involve minors in these crimes. We have also introduced a new offence for laundering the proceeds of crime for the benefit of a criminal organization, punishable by a maximum of 14 years in prison. In addition, we have added a new aggravating factor applicable at sentencing where there is evidence that an offender involved a person under the age of 18 in the commission of an offence.

    Regulating Theft Devices:

Updates to the Radiocommunications Act will tightly regulate devices used for car theft, helping local authorities limit access to these tools and remove them from circulation. Further, we are creating a National Intergovernmental Working Group on Auto Theft to coordinate actions, monitor progress, and explore new initiatives to stay ahead of those committing these crimes.

    Enhancing Technology and Cooperation:

We’re increasing the capacity of the Canada Border Services Agency, deploying new technology like vehicle scanners, and enhancing cooperation between all levels of government and police forces to better apprehend stolen vehicles. Intervention improvements will allow more shipping containers to be examined through increased capacity at the CBSA and the integration of new targeting tools. Our recent efforts in Oakville include the successful conclusion of a four-month investigation by Halton Regional Police Services, resulting in the seizure of 23 re-vinned vehicles worth over $2 million. The organized crew targeted high-end vehicles and was also involved in large-scale drug trafficking, highlighting the need for continued collaboration among law enforcement agencies.

The Conservative approach to crime has been marked by a lack of substantive solutions. Rather than offering a clear plan to improve public safety, they focus on criticism without any real alternatives. The Conservative strategy leaves communities vulnerable. The Liberal plan is focused on empowering law enforcement, enhancing public safety, and ensuring that Oakville East remains a secure place to live and raise a family.

  • The Liberals are dedicated to making life more affordable for all Canadians by addressing the rising cost of living, ensuring that everyone has access to the essentials they need without financial strain.

    Strengthening Competition and Reducing Costs:

We’re taking action to strengthen competition in Canada by reforming legislation to crack down on unfair practices that drive up costs. This includes holding the country’s five largest grocery chains accountable for their commitments to stabilize prices and enhance competition in the grocery sector. Additionally, our new National School Food Program will provide 400,000 more children with nutritious meals each year, helping families save on grocery bills.

    Cracking Down on Junk Fees:

We continue our efforts to eliminate junk fees that burden Canadians, including lowering bank fees, investigating international mobile roaming rates, and ensuring that airlines seat all children under 14 next to their accompanying adult at no extra cost.

    Enhancing Banking Options:

We’re modernizing banking options by enhancing low-cost and no-cost banking accounts and designating a single independent ombudsman to assist Canadians in resolving complaints with their banks.

The Conservatives would roll back these critical supports, making life harder for middle-class families. Our commitment remains to keep life affordable for people in Oakville East and beyond.

  • Our Liberal government is committed to driving economic growth that benefits all Canadians. Through strategic investments and policies, we’ve strengthened Canada’s position as a global economic leader, ensuring that our economy remains resilient and prosperous even in challenging times.

    Boosting International Trade:

Canada has become an international trade powerhouse, with exports increasing by 45% since 2015. This growth has solidified our position on the global stage, ensuring that Canadian businesses, including those in Oakville East, thrive in international markets and create jobs.

     Avoiding Recession and Reducing Inflation:

Canada has successfully avoided the recession that some predicted. Inflation has dropped significantly from its June 2022 peak of 8.1% to just 2.8% in February 2024. Our economy remains strong, providing stability and confidence for Canadians.

    Strengthening the Labour Market:

Our labour market is robust, with over 1.1 million more Canadians employed today than before the pandemic, marking the fastest jobs recovery in the G7. Additionally, real wages have increased, giving Canadians more purchasing power and contributing to a higher standard of living.

    Maintaining Financial Stability:

Canada holds a Triple A credit rating and boasts the lowest debt-to-GDP ratio in the G7, coupled with historically low unemployment rates. Our fiscal prudence is further reflected in the Bank of Canada’s recent decisions to lower interest rates, reducing the burden on Canadians while supporting continued economic growth.

The Conservatives lack a clear plan to sustain and build on Canada’s economic success. While they focus on criticism, the Liberals are committed to continuing our strategy of growth and stability, ensuring that Canada’s economy works for everyone. They say they are strong on the economy, but they will not and have not told Canadians what they will cut.

  • Families are the foundation of our society, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every family in Oakville East has the support they need to thrive. When families have the resources they need, children grow up healthier, happier, and better equipped to contribute to society. Our focus on early childhood development and family support is an investment in the future of our country.

    Canada Child Benefit:

The Liberal government has enhanced the Canada Child Benefit to provide up to $7,787 per child annually, offering crucial financial support to families. Since 2016, this benefit has lifted 650,000 children out of poverty, giving families the financial stability they need to raise their children in a secure environment.

     $10-a-Day Child Care:

We are committed to expanding affordable childcare across Canada. We have reduced childcare by over 50% and are moving closer to making $10-a-day child care a reality for families. This initiative has reduced childcare fees by hundreds of dollars for parents while ensuring that their children have access to quality early learning.

    Parental Leave and Support:

We’ve extended parental leave benefits and introduced the EI Parental Sharing Benefit, providing an additional 5 weeks of leave when both parents share parental leave. This encourages a more equitable distribution of caregiving responsibilities and allows both parents to bond with their new child.

The Conservatives: Pierre Poilievre has rejected key family support programs, calling them “slush funds”. This shows a deep disconnect from the realities faced by Canadian families. Unlike the Conservatives, we understand that investing in families is essential for building a prosperous community here in Oakville East.

  • The Liberal Party believes that every Canadian deserves access to quality health care, regardless of where they live or their financial situation. We are committed to supporting the revitalization of our public health care to ensure it meets the needs of all Canadians.

    Reducing Wait Times:

    • Canadians should not have to endure long wait times to receive essential health care services. We are committed to reducing wait lists by investing in health care worker recruitment and retention. This includes increasing wages for personal support workers and related health care professionals, ensuring that our health care workforce is adequately supported and that patients receive timely care.

    Improving Access to Primary Care:

    • Access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner is crucial for every Canadian. Primary care services should be the first point of contact, not crowded emergency rooms. Our plan invests in expanding access to family health care services across the country, so more Canadians can get the care they need when they need it.

Supporting Mental Health and Addiction Services:

    • One in three Canadians are struggling with their mental health, and many face barriers when seeking help. We are investing in mental health services and substance use supports to ensure that help is available to everyone, reducing stigma and providing the resources needed to support Canadians in their mental health.

    Modernizing the Health Care System:

    • Canadians deserve a health care system that is modern, efficient, and well-connected. We are moving forward with plans to modernize the health care system by implementing standardized information and digital tools that allow for seamless sharing of health data across health settings, provinces, and territories. This will make it easier for Canadians to access their health information and for health professionals to provide coordinated care.

    Delivering National Universal Pharmacare:

    • We are introducing National Universal Pharmacare to make vital medications more affordable for Canadians. Our plan will help 9 million Canadians by making contraceptives free and providing 3.7 million Canadians with access to diabetes medication. This ensures that all Canadians can access the medications they need, regardless of their ability to pay.

    Expanding Access to Dental Care:

    • We recognize that oral health is a critical component of overall health. That’s why we’ve rolled out the Canadian Dental Care Plan, ensuring that over 9 million Canadians, including children under 18, seniors 65 and over, and adults with a valid disability tax credit, have access to essential dental care. By expanding dental care coverage, we’re reducing out-of-pocket expenses for families and improving the health outcomes of millions of Canadians.

The Conservatives have a history of undermining public health care, proposing cuts that would make it harder for Canadians to get the care they need. When asked by reporters if he would dismantle Liberal pharmacare, Pierre Poilievre ran away. While Poilievre and his Conservatives want to make deep cuts to services and gut the middle class, Anita Anand and our Liberal team are focused on strengthening our public health care system and lowering the cost of living for people right here in Oakville East.

  • The Liberal Party is leading the fight against climate change with a plan that not only addresses environmental concerns but also drives economic growth. Since 2015, our Liberal government has proven that meaningful climate action and a strong economy can go hand in hand.

    Putting a Price on Pollution:

We have implemented a carbon pricing system that holds big polluters accountable while putting more money back into the pockets of 8 out of 10 Canadians.

    Making Zero-Emission Vehicles Affordable:

To reduce emissions from the transportation sector, we have made zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) more affordable and accessible to Canadians. This includes providing rebates of up to $5,000 on ZEVs and investing in charging stations across the country, including in Oakville East. This makes it easier for Canadians to switch to cleaner transportation options.

    Historic Investments in Public Transit:

We have supported over 1,300 public transit projects across Canada, including in Oakville East. Cleaner and more efficient public transit options are essential for creating sustainable communities.

    Greening Canada’s Homes and Buildings:

By helping Canadians invest in energy-efficient retrofits for their homes and businesses, we’re cutting pollution, lowering energy bills, and creating good-paying jobs in communities across the country.

    Reducing Oil and Gas Pollution:

We are working closely with the oil and gas industry to reduce emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources. Our collaboration with industry leaders ensures that Canada can provide global energy security while leading in clean energy production.

The Conservatives: Pierre Poilievre has consistently opposed meaningful climate action, choosing to side with polluters instead of protecting our environment. Just a year ago, the Conservatives even voted against recognizing that climate change is “real.” Their reluctance to take necessary steps would not only harm our environment but also undermine our economy and workforce. Only our Liberal team is committed to accelerating progress and taking the bold actions needed to clean our air, protect our planet and create jobs.
